About

‘My daily prayer is that now the angels may watch over its walls, and that afterwards, when filled with sufferers, these bright spirits who “excel in strength” may fly on errands of mercy, and thus carry out ministrations of love which finite creatures fail to accomplish.

Broomhill and Lanfine Homes were institutions for the care of individuals with incurable illnesses. They were active in Kirkintilloch, Glasgow, from 1875 to 1995. This website is a digital form of the first and only chronological recounting of the homes and their founder, Miss Beatrice Clugston.

The book was published in 2018 after two years of intensive research. The contents are sourced from the original documents in the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Archives, recovered from Broomhill and Lanfine Homes after their closure. The archival material in the William Patrick Library was also heavily used. All proceeds from the book are donated to charities for incurable illnesses.
